Addressing climate change by reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions alone is expected to be insufficient to overcome the environmental and social challenges of global warming. Both climate change mitigation and adaptation measures will be needed for businesses and communities to cope with climate change. Mitigation is distinct from adaptation. In this context, mitigation describes actions that decrease the intensity of the greenhouse effect caused by emissions to reduce the potential effects of climate change.
